The Extra Deluxe models are enriched with floral engravings and English scrolls on the lock, the tang and the trigger guard. The selected walnut stock is checkered and the barrels are rust brown colour finished.
Background to the tupara muskets.
The Pukehinahina Charitable Trust in Tauranga has been established and operative to organise a number of high profile commemoration events during April 2014, and beyond to acknowledge the Battle of Gate Pa and Te Ranga in the Tauranga precincts.
As a key part of these events 20 handcrafted Tupara or double barrel shotguns have been produced as exact replicas of the favoured firearms of Maori warriors at the time c 1860 and indeed as used extensively in the above two battles.
On the 29th April and 21st June 2014 these firearms played a significant role in the commemorations at Gate Pa and Te Ranga.
Each tupara will have a plaque incorporated onto the stock commemorating the significant event.
These have been manufactured in Italy by :
Davide Pedersoli and Co to a traditional English design.
They have been assembled in NZ by John Osborne mailto:jcosborne@xtra.co.nz.
They are disarmed but can be readily armed by a competent firearms expert.
Subsequently ( as was common at the time of use by Maori) the walnut butts have been carved in tradition by Master Carver Whare Thompson and Master Carver Damien Kohu.
The Pukehinahina Trust relies upon funds sought from a range of local and national bodies. The Trust is run on a purely voluntary basis by the Trustees who represent key figures in local Maoridom , military connections and historians and well known local professional business owners . If required a copy of the Trustees and Constitution can be provided to validate the integrity and responsibilities involved. Similarly if required we can provide any background information on the Battle at Gate Pa and Te Ranga if you felt that was important to ensure the importance and context of these firearms.
