• Lower Receiver: Manufactured from solid billet 7075-T6 aluminium at Gun Supplies workshop in Rotorua, this lower receiver is unique to the ABYSS SP-i Series single shot rifles. Its single centred pivot lug prevents compatibility with any mil-spec upper receiver, highlighting its bespoke design. The Series II features minor presentation updates and an "A" cut representing the ABYSS brand.
• Upper Receiver: Also crafted from solid billet 7075-T6 aluminium in Rotorua, the upper receiver is exclusively designed for the ABYSS SP-i Series. It includes two outside edge lugs, ensuring it cannot fit any mil-spec lower receiver. A cut-out slot on the left side allows for reversing the charging handle, and the Series II incorporates minor aesthetic updates.
• Bolt Carrier: Constructed from 4140 steel, hardened to 45rc, and black nitrided, these bolt carriers are unique to the ABYSS SP-i Series rifles. They are smaller in diameter and shorter than standard AR/M4 bolt carriers, lacking an expansion chamber cut-out to restrict the rifle to single-shot firing. The re-engineered cam slot ensures smooth locking and unlocking of the bolt lugs.
• Charging Handle: Manufactured in Rotorua, this charging handle is reversible to accommodate both left and right-handed shooters. It is secured with two high-tensile screws and features an arm bent at 40 degrees downward, fitted with a 21mm Acetal groove-shaped knob.
• Bolt: Uniquely designed and engineered by Gun Supplies for the ABYSS SP-i Series, this bolt lacks gas rings. The shaft, where gas rings would typically be, is milled down to act as a bush within the carrier, perfectly aligning the bolt within the carrier for precise lug engagement.
• Bolt Recoil System: A new, single one-piece design for the Series II, integrating the Rod Shaft, Spring, End Cap, and Buffer Cushion for simplified rifle stripping and maintenance.
• Bolt Catch: Redesigned and engineered for the ABYSS SP-i lower receiver, this new bolt catch accommodates the shorter and smaller bolt carrier. Milled with easily accessible touch pads, it allows for quicker bolt release.
• Barrel: The Series II ABYSS SP-i Rifle utilises European manufactured cold hammer forged steel rifle barrels with a 1:9 twist. Supplied as blanks, Gun Supplies contours and profiles the barrel, threads the chamber end with a 13/16" thread for the barrel extension, and sets the head spacing. The muzzle end is threaded with a 1/2-28 thread for a muzzle brake or suppressor. The standard barrel length is 16" with a light to medium contour.
• Ambidextrous Extended Magazine Catch: Designed and engineered by Gun Supplies for the ABYSS SP-i Rifle, with components manufactured both overseas and locally to optimise cost.
• Single Stage Drop-in Adjustable Trigger: This GBC-developed drop-in trigger features an adjustable trigger weight screw, offering a clean, crisp, no-creep hammer drop with an adjustable pull weight from 3lb to 5.5lb.
