Hodgdon H4831SC (Short Cut) is a legendary slow-burning extruded propellant, widely considered one of the most versatile propellants ever produced for big-game hunting and target shooting. Introduced by Bruce Hodgdon in 1950, it is ballistically identical to the classic H4831, but with one critical physical difference: the granules have been cut significantly shorter.

This "Short Cut" (SC) granule geometry allows the propellant to flow smoothly through volumetric measures without the crunching or cutting of granules, leading to more consistent charge weights and improved loading density in the cartridge case. It is particularly well-suited for popular cartridges such as the .270 Winchester, 25-06 Remington, 280 Remington, and 300 Winchester Magnum.
