Product Description
The Hornady Precision Hunter 7mm PRC features the advanced ELD-X (Extremely Low Drag - Expanding) bullet, engineered for precision accuracy and consistent, controlled expansion across all practical hunting distances. This bullet offers class-leading ballistic coefficients, verified by Doppler radar, ensuring exceptional performance for hunting and sporting applications.
Hornady engineers identified that commonly used polymer tips in high ballistic coefficient (BC) bullets can melt and deform in flight. This aerodynamic heating causes BC reduction and degradation of accuracy, particularly at extended ranges (400+ yards). To counteract this, Hornady developed the Heat Shield tip from a heat-resistant polymer. This revolutionary tip creates a perfect meplat (tip) with exceptionally consistent results from bullet to bullet and lot to lot.
Conventional Range Performance (0-400 yards):
At conventional hunting distances, the ELD-X bullet is designed for continuous expansion throughout its penetration path. Upon impact, the thin nose section of the bullet peels back and sheds material until it reaches the thick shank of the bullet jacket where the InterLock ring helps to keep the core and jacket together. The remaining heavy shank of the bullet continues to drive forward and expand for highly effective results.
Extended Range Terminal Performance (400+ yards):
Upon contact at extended range (400+ yards), the Heat Shield tip drives backward into the carefully designed nose cavity to begin the expansion process. At these lower velocities, the ELD-X bullet exhibits conventional expansion characteristics with a large mushroom and 85-90% retained weight, ensuring deep penetration and reliable terminal performance.
Available as component bullets or in factory loaded ELD-X Precision Hunter cartridges, ELD-X bullets are designed for optimised ballistic coefficients, exceptional accuracy, consistency, and reliable performance at all practical hunting distances.
