Product Description
The Leatherman Wave (most recently updated as the Wave+) is widely considered the gold standard of multi-tools. First introduced in 1998 and heavily redesigned in 2004 and 2018, it is Leatherman's most popular model of all time, known for its balance of size, features, and durability.
The current generation—the Wave+—features 17 tools in a compact, 4-inch (closed) frame. Its defining feature is that its four main blades/saws can be opened from the outside with one hand, without opening the pliers.
-
Pliers: Needlenose and regular pliers.
-
Wire Cutters: Premium replaceable wire/hard-wire cutters (the signature upgrade of the "Plus" model).
-
Outside-Accessible Blades: 420HC knife, 420HC serrated knife, saw, and wood/metal file (diamond-coated on one side).
-
Drivers: Large bit driver (comes with a double-ended Phillips/slotted bit), small bit driver (eyeglass screwdriver), and a medium flat screwdriver.
-
Other Tools: Spring-action scissors, bottle/can opener, wire stripper, and an 8-inch/19-cm ruler stamped into the handles.
The Pros and ConsPros Cons Outside-accessible blades allow fast, one-handed deployment. Heavy for its size (8.5 oz / 241 g), making it noticeable in a pocket without a clip. Replaceable wire cutters mean you don't ruin the tool if you chip them. Uses proprietary flat bits rather than standard 1/4" hex bits (requires buying Leatherman's bit kit or an adapter). All tools lock into place securely for safety. Pocket clip and lanyard ring are sold separately.
