The Stoney Creek Stealth Fly is constructed from 40D Nylon 6 with a silicone-coated outer and a 3000mm silicone-coated inner. This advanced fabric is not factory seam-sealed, and a liquid silicone-based seam sealer must be applied by the user to achieve a fully waterproof shelter.
Stoney Creek utilises Silicone Nylon, commonly known as "Silnylon," in the Stealth Fly. This fabric's fibres are infused with a silicone coating, making it significantly stronger and lighter than traditional tent fabrics. Silicone is inert, offering the added benefit that it will never mould or mildew. The strong bond between the coating and fabric yarn ensures that, unlike traditional polyurethane-coated fabrics, Silnylon will never delaminate. This makes it a premium choice for lightweight outdoor shelters.
The unique characteristic of Silicone Nylon means that standard seam tapes, designed for polyurethane-coated fabrics, will not adhere effectively. Therefore, manual seam sealing is required. To effectively seam seal Silicone Nylon, a liquid silicone-based sealer is necessary. The silicone in the sealer will form a permanent bond with the silicone in the fabric. Once properly seam-sealed, your Stoney Creek Stealth Fly will provide reliable shelter for many years of outdoor use.
