Perazzi MR57 Competition Shotgun
A New Era in Competition Shotguns. Perazzi's first major new platform in over a decade, arriving at Bronco's late November 2026.
Overview
The Perazzi MR57, named in honor of Mauro and Roberta Perazzi and the year the company was founded (1957), is the Italian manufacturer's first major new platform in over a decade (since the High Tech in 2015). It represents a significant step forward in shotgun design, focusing on re-engineering the balance and handling while retaining the proven mechanicals that have made Perazzi a legend on the clay target circuit.
This is not simply a cosmetic update; the MR57 is a genuinely new gun designed from the ground up to offer a distinctly different shooting experience.

Key Features and Innovations
The most significant departure from traditional Perazzi models—and indeed, most clay target guns—is the MR57's balance. Historically, target shotguns strive for either a neutral balance or a slight forward bias (muzzle heavy) to aid in a smooth swing.
The MR57 upends this philosophy. Perazzi engineers have intentionally shifted the mass rearward, creating a slight rearward bias that favors the receiver over the barrels. This was achieved through a clever "3D trapezoid" design on the side of the receiver, which allowed them to shave weight from the exterior walls and concentrate that mass on the trailing edge of the receiver.
The Result: The gun feels incredibly nimble and fast in the hands. Shooters report that the barrels feel significantly lighter than a typical 12-gauge over/under, giving the sensation of swinging a much smaller gauge gun. This rapid pointability allows for quicker target acquisition and faster transitions between targets in pairs.
The rearward weight shift isn't just about speed; it's heavily tied to recoil management. The mass concentrated at the rear of the receiver is designed to drive the recoil straight back and slightly down (acting much like a car "squatting" under hard acceleration).
When combined with a stock designed with zero pitch (meaning the recoil pad sits perfectly flush in the shoulder pocket), the recoil energy is distributed evenly across a larger surface area and channeled down into the shoulder, keeping the jolt away from the shooter's face.
The MR57 features newly engineered tri-alloy steel barrels. A major update is that Perazzi is now manufacturing its own thin-wall chokes and lengthened forcing cones in-house.
These 8 cm thin-wall chokes are specifically designed to maintain the exact weight, balance, and handling dynamics of fixed-choke barrels. This eliminates the compromise often found in multi-choke systems, allowing shooters the versatility of changeable chokes without sacrificing the pure balance of a fixed-choke gun. The barrels are available in 18.4 mm or 18.6 mm bore diameters.
Aesthetics and ergonomics
The MR57 boasts a striking, contemporary design. It blends the curves of the High Tech model with the sharper, straighter lines of the MX series.
- The Receiver: The bold, modern receiver features a mix of gloss and matte finishes, presenting a highly sophisticated look. (Note: As of mid-2026, engraving is not currently offered on the MR57).
- The Forend: The forend has been completely re-contoured with sharp, crisp lines and carefully placed finger channels. This provides excellent grip and control without encouraging a "stranglehold" on the wood.
- Checkering: The checkering pattern is unique to the MR57, further distinguishing it from previous models.
Proven reliability
While the exterior and balance are revolutionary, the MR57 relies on the tried-and-true mechanicals that shooters have trusted for decades.
It uses the same robust, Boss-style locking system as the MX series. The internal components—springs, hammers, firing pins—are fully interchangeable with the MX8, MX12, and High Tech models. Shooters have the option of a fixed or detachable trigger group.
