420HC is Buck's standard blade material, chosen for its excellent balance. It offers the wear resistance of high carbon alloys combined with the corrosion resistance of chromium stainless steels. Buck's exclusive heat-treat process creates a user-friendly combination of superior corrosion resistance, excellent strength for wear resistance, and durability. This blade material is also easy to resharpen. For optimal performance, Buck hardens the steel to a Rockwell hardness of Rc 58.
The drop point blade is full-bellied with a strong, thick point, making it suitable for heavier tasks and general work. The top of the blade gently drops down towards the tip, which helps to minimise accidental puncturing during use, such as when skinning. This blade shape is strong and highly versatile.
